Remembering Sandy G.

Headstone at Holy Cross Cemetery

Sandy is remembered by family and friends as vibrant and sparkling, always with what her father describes as a 'twinkle in her eye.'

She attended Saint Catherine School and graduated in 1992 with a perfect attendance for all eight years.  She also excelled in track, winning the state 200 meter dash in the 9 & 10 year old group.

At Kapaa High School, Sandy lettered for four years as a Cheer Leader and was the Athlete of the year in her senior year.  In 1994 she graduated and went on to the University of Hawaii, Hilo.

Sandy decided to leave College and get married in 1999.  On December 12, 1999 she married Darren Galas.  She had her first son, Austin, in 2000 and her second, Braden, in 2002.

Her untimely death cut short her many dreams and hopes for an exciting and promising future.

This terrible act of violence remains unsolved, and leaves family and friends wondering how and why this could have happened.

When Lawrence Mendonca, Sandy's father, took her two small children to visit their mother's grave site, they left behind drawings and gave a kiss goodbye. 'These are the memories we have now.' he said.

Her death has had a profound impact on many people.  She was too well loved to be forgotten.
